Map Life Facts ~ Google Maps Mode

This style of map is only possible if the Location Plot Options tab has a Google Maps API Key that is valid & enabled. Otherwise, maps will say Sorry/Oops! Something went wrong and the Geocode Location Plots tab Geocode Plot … buttons will be disabled.

Beware that the API Key exists for website map files within the mapfacts.js file, so it may be stolen and your Quota Limits used. If that is of concern, then use Leaflet Maps mode instead for website map files. Only one map file needs to be updated for all files to be modified.

Google Maps Mode

Google Maps have the following features:

  • Click Map to Show street map optionally with Terrain, or Satellite to Show satellite imagery optionally with Labels for streets.
  • The Toggle fullscreen view icon top right will only work in website map files.
  • Click + Zoom in and – Zoom out to alter the scale as shown on bottom margin.
  • Drag anywhere on the background to pan the map.
  • Drag & drop the orange man to enter Google Street View.
  • Hover the cursor over any red Marker to show a tooltip Caption of location name.
  • Click on any red Marker to show a Popup box of fact & location details.
  • Drag & drop any red Marker to temporarily separate coincident Markers or reveal details.
  • On the Geocode Location Plots tab drag & drop the Marker to adjust its Defined Latitude & Longitude values.
  • On the Geocode Location Plots tab for an un-plotted Location, right-click on the map to create a new Marker.
