Import From PAF ~ Note Tag Features

These features support user-defined PAF Note Tags and other special cases.

The Note Tags are automatically found by searching all Individual whole record local Note fields, in which PAF Tags are preceded by a blank line, comprise upper-case letters, digits, hyphens & underscores, are followed by a colon & space, and where a 4 digit prefix represents a year.
e.g. BIRTH: , OCCUPATION: , MARRIAGE: , OWN_WILL , HEARTHTAX: , 1781CENSUS:

Each Note Tag is listed in mixed-case and lets a space be inserted as the basis of a Custom Fact Name, e.g. Hearth tax.

The Fact Option and Text Field drop lists allow a Data Reference to be defined for each Tag's text.

Each Fact Option list offers all the GEDCOM Standard Facts together with:

  • Individual Record that identifies the Individual record
  • Individual Custom Event that uses the Tag name as the Custom Event name
  • Individual Custom Attribute that uses the Tag name as the Custom Attribute name
  • Family Record that identifies a Family record
  • Family Custom Event that uses the Tag name as the Custom Event name
  • Family Custom Attribute that uses the Tag name as the Custom Attribute name

Each Text Field list offers all reasonable fields such as Local Note, Note Record, Text From Source, Address & Place for Facts, Citations, and Sources. A Default Text Field can be chosen from the lowest list that will automatically adjust all matching entries above.

In special cases a Data Reference can be edited so its Custom Fact Tag matches a Tag known to Family Historian. See the FAQ for advice.

If the same Tag appears more than once in an Individual Note, then consecutive Tags are joined as one, otherwise multiple instances of the Data Reference will be created.

Eventually, use the Move all Note Tags button to transfer each Tag's text to its Data Reference.

A Tag such as Marriage or Divorce may move its text to the wrong Family Fact if there are multiple Spouses. See the FAQ for advice.

If needed, the Change Any Fact Tag Plugin may subsequently be used to rename any of the Fact Tags.

Use Tools > Work with Fact Sets and Show Hidden to set Properties for each undefined Custom Fact. See the FAQ for advice.
