For most purposes you don't need an actual Note record to store a note. In Family Historian you can keep notes about almost anything, and these are normally kept in the record that they relate to. For example, a note about a person's birth would be attached to the birth event in the Individual's record. But if you wish to make a note that is applicable to more than one Individual, Family, Source or Repository - or to a combination of records of different types - you should create the note as a Note record, and link it to all the relevant records. For example, you might wish to make a note about an important house - who acquired it, when, who did they acquire it from, who modified it, who sold it … and so on.

There are many and varied methods of entering notes in FH explained much better in the FH manual, so please refer to that on how to enter notes. This entry is on what use they are. Note records are also known as Shared Notes.
This is a one-to-many relationship i.e. 'Member Of The Choir' can have many individuals linked to it. The advantage is that one does not have to type out the same item a number of times.
Some users use shared notes to acknowledge all researchers instrumental in putting together the family tree. The advantage is that the information is against all people if the tree were to be split, the disadvantage is that the Gedcom increases in size and may need editing (see below).
Other forms of notes include:
Local notes are not actually stored as records, but as fields against other records. Local notes, as for shared notes can be attached to Individuals, Families and to Facts against both Individuals, Families
These apply to one record only i.e. 'Member of the Choir' would appear against that individual only.
These apply to one individual person.
These apply to both partners in a marriage i.e 'Member of the Choir' would appear against both of them.
What Restrictions Are There?
FH does not currently support formatted notes, other than paragraphs.
How Can I Remove Notes From Sources?
How Can I Edit Multiple Local Notes?
Either use the Edit > Find and Replace command, or the Search and Replace Plugin, or by Using a Text Editor with GEDCOM Files.
