User Guide

These Queries rely on a Named List of Individual records that are unrelated to the Key Individual. They may be just acquaintances, or significant historical figures such as monarchs, or a collection of historical facts, which could have special names such as Colonial Wars /Historical Facts/.

Standard facts can be used, but often a special Custom Individual Attribute will be better, so use Tools > Fact Types > New… to create an attribute named Historical Fact with a Sentence Template such as {value} {place}< at {address}> {age} and its Normal Time Frame set to None.

The Queries exclude any Fact dated 1 year earlier than earliest birth date or 1 year later than latest death date of the Key Individual, but the Rows filter values of -1 and 1 can be changed if a wider range is desired. Alternatively, the Query can prompt for the values as in Query:Fact ~ Timeline Facts.

The Queries have Columns for Fact and Age whose Expression can be customised, but they both display the same details for the Key Individual's facts as the standard Individual Timeline query.

  • Timeline with Historical Facts defines Fact and Age as follows.
    • Fact displays each special fact prefixed with an asterisk.
      =TextIf( TimelineFactOrder(%FACT%,["Individual"]) > 0, TimelineFactText(%FACT%,["Individual"]), Text("* " . %FACT%) )
    • Age displays each historical fact Age field (if any).
      =TextIf( TimelineFactOrder(%FACT%,["Individual"]) > 0, TimelineFactAge(%FACT%,["Individual"]), %FACT.AGE% )
  • Timeline plus Historical Facts defines Fact and Age as follows.
    • Fact displays each special fact narrative Sentence prefixed with an asterisk.
      =TextIf( TimelineFactOrder(%FACT%,["Individual"]) > 0, TimelineFactText(%FACT%,["Individual"]), Text("* " . FactSentence(%FACT%)))
    • Age displays the Age of the Key Individual at the Date of each special fact.
      =TextIf( TimelineFactOrder(%FACT%,["Individual"]) > 0, TimelineFactAge(%FACT%,["Individual"]), AgeAt(["Individual"],%FACT.DATE%) )
  • Alternative Fact column options.
    • Fact displays each historical Facts tab listing, as defined by the Fact Definition > Advanced > Use Override Template for Facts tab Listings which can include an asterisk prefix.
      =TextIf( TimelineFactOrder(%FACT%,["Individual"]) > 0, TimelineFactText(%FACT%,["Individual"]), TimelineFactText(%FACT%,GetRecord(%FACT%)))

Those alternatives can be interchanged as desired. If a different prefix is required then change the "* " text.
