Add a Person to an Existing Ancestral Sources Entry

Introduction

If a person is missed off when an entry is created with Ancestral Sources then they can only be added afterwards with Family Historian.

The technique required depends on the type of record being entered.

The following advice is based on Family Historian V4 and above (variants for V3 are shown in parentheses).

Census Details

  1. Open the Property Box for one of the people included in the Census entry e.g. Head of household, and click on the Facts (Events) tab.
  2. Select the relevant Census Event.
  3. Among the buttons under the Facts list, the 2nd one shows a label Copy Fact(s) (Copy Events/Attributes). Click on this button.
  4. Find or create the Person you want to add to this Census entry, open their Property Box, and again look at the Facts (Events) tab.
  5. Now click on the 3rd button under the Facts list, named Paste Fact(s) (Paste Events/Attributes).
  6. This will insert the same Census Event as for the other Person including the correct Source Citation, but you should alter their Age to that recorded in the Census.
  7. If this Person also had an Occupation recorded, repeat the above, only this time copy the Occupation Attribute from the Head of the household for the Census in question, and alter the Occupation to that recorded in the Census.
  8. If necessary repeat this whole process for the Residence Attribute.
  9. You may also need to update the Birth Event details, and use the Copy Citation and Paste Citation buttons to copy the Source link.
  10. You may wish to use the Copy Citation and Paste Citation buttons to copy the Source link for the person's Name field on the Main tab.

Baptism Details

  1. Open the Property Box of the Person who was Baptised, and click on the Facts (Events) tab.
  2. Select the relevant Residence Attribute.
  3. Among the buttons under the Facts list, the 2nd one shows a label Copy Fact(s) (Copy Events/Attributes). Click on this button.
  4. Find or create the Person you want to add, open their Property Box, and again look at the Facts (Events) tab.
  5. Now click on the 3rd button under the Facts list, named Paste Fact(s) (Paste Events/Attributes).
  6. This will insert the same Residence Attribute as for the other Person including the correct Source Citation, but you may have to alter their Address to that in the Baptism Record.
  7. If this Person also had an Occupation recorded, then add the Occupation Attribute, and use the Copy Citation and Paste Citation buttons to copy the Source link.
  8. You may wish to use the Copy Citation and Paste Citation buttons to copy the Source link for the person's Name field on the Main tab.
  9. There may need to be other edits to add details for Associated Individuals.
