Introduction
If a person is missed off when an entry is created with Ancestral Sources, then they can only be added afterwards with Family Historian.
The technique required depends on the type of record being entered.
The following advice is based on
Census Details
- Open the Property BoxThe Property Box is the primary window for data entry and for viewing details of stored records. It is used with records of all types. for one of the people included in the CensusCensus records are national collections of population statistics. They usually record details about members of a household on a particular date, and are typically collected every ten years. entry e.g. Head of household, and click on the FactsFacts are one of the key concepts at the heart of Family Historian; they are how you record the things that happened to, or described, each ancestor (Individual). (Events) tab.
- Select the relevant Census Event.
- Among the buttons under the Facts list, the 2nd one shows a label Copy Fact(s) (Copy Events/Attributes). Click on this button.
- Find or create the Person you want to add to this Census entry, open their Property Box, and again look at the Facts (Events) tab.
- Now click on the 3rd button under the Facts list, named Paste Fact(s) (Paste Events/Attributes).
- This will insert the same Census Event as for the other Person including the correct SourceSource: “where information was found”. This could be anything from an archive in a county records office, a book, or even a relative’s recorded recollection. Citing your Sources helps to show how you reached a particular conclusion about an Individual. CitationA link between a source and a fact, documenting Where within the source you find information being “cited” to support the fact/conclusion., but you should alter their Age to that recorded in the Census.
- If this Person also had an OccupationAn occupation is defined in the GEDCOM standard as: ‘The kind of activity that an individual does for a job, profession, or principal activity’. recorded, repeat the above, only this time copy the Occupation AttributeEvents are things that happened to an Individual and Attributes are things that described them. from the Head of the household for the Census in question, and alter the Occupation to that recorded in the Census.
- If necessary repeat this whole process for the Residence Attribute.
- You may also need to update the Birth Event details, and use the Copy Citation and Paste Citation buttons to copy the Source link.
- You may wish to use the Copy Citation and Paste Citation buttons to copy the Source link for the person’s Name field on the Main tab.
Baptism Details
- Open the Property Box of the Person who was Baptised, and click on the Facts (Events) tab.
- Select the relevant Residence Attribute.
- Among the buttons under the Facts list, the 2nd one shows a label Copy Fact(s) (Copy Events/Attributes). Click on this button.
- Find or create the Person you want to add, open their Property Box, and again look at the Facts (Events) tab.
- Now click on the 3rd button under the Facts list, named Paste Fact(s) (Paste Events/Attributes).
- This will insert the same Residence Attribute as for the other Person including the correct Source Citation, but you may have to alter their Address“The address structure should be formed as it would appear on a mailing label…”, according to GEDCOM; however, this is capable of a number of interpretations, and Address and Place are best considered together. to that in the Baptism Record.
- If this Person also had an Occupation recorded, then add the Occupation Attribute, and use the Copy Citation and Paste Citation buttons to copy the Source link.
- You may wish to use the Copy Citation and Paste Citation buttons to copy the Source link for the person’s Name field on the Main tab.
- There may need to be other edits to add details for Associated Individuals.
