I deleted a record and now the record ID is skipped e.g. the record IDs go 418...420 and skip 419. Is there any way to get them to be in order again. I closed the project and reopened it but still the same thing. Thanks

Record IDs are not renumbered or reused, as if you were using them to access offline information this would be disastrous. Missing numbers do not cause any problems or take any space.
If you really want to renumber please use the Tools>Work With Record Identifiers and select the option to renumber.

Most users prefer each Record to retain its original Record Id.
There is no harm in the Record Id not being consecutive.
I would advise leaving them alone.
But, if you really want to resequence them, then use Tools > Work with Record Identifiers.
As the warning at the top says This will probably prevent saved Charts from displaying correctly, if at all.
