Date problem

Post by Stevebye » 30 Mar 2012 18:49

If I enter a date and place under the Main Tab then switch Tabs and go back to Main the date has disappeared, place is still there. Only happens if I don't save the file before switching.

(Upgraded today from 4.1.3).

Does this happen with all fact types or just a particular type of event (e.g. Death)

Steve, I can't reproduce this, how are you entering the field, do you press tab or enter to exit the field or move out with the mouse?

I type in the date, click on, for example, the Facts tab, go back to the Main tab, the date has disappeared.

Also, when in the Facts screen the date is missing but the place is still there.

Yes, Steve - this would appear to be the same problem as:-

http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... y&num=6230

Thanks for the advice regarding your workaround, although I'm not sure that this will be practical for me.

It is worrying this problem does not appear to have been acknowledged by Calico Pie.....as though it does not exist - I cannot see any fix to it in their latest beta release.

I think I will contact Calico Pie and ask if they acknowledge the issue and plan to do anything about it.

I contacted Calico Pie. They weren't aware of the problem. The issue has now been passed on to the Developers, so fingers crossed. [grin]

I have a love affair with my 'Save' button. So much so that it's nearly worn out. [wink]

Another time when the date disappears is when I flit between a website and FH. Enter date, check on Ancestry, back to FH and date has gone. Again saving before going to website cures this.

Steve, you said the problem happens on the Main tab in Born, Bap, Marr and Died fields.
However, Bap does not appear on a default Main tab, and Marr only appears on the Spouse sub-tab.
So, have you customised the Main tab?
If so, does the problem still occur if you return to Installation Settings?
Remember to Export your tab customisations first though!!!

Customised back in v3. No problems through v3 & v4. Fault occured when upgraded to v5. No changes made to 'Marr', that is still as per Installation Settings.

Not sure how you customised Main tab in FH V3, because Tab Customisation option was only added to FH V4!

I understand that the problem has only started in FH V5, but it may be due to a change in its software associated with Customised Tabs.

Can you please check if the problem still happens with Installation Settings (but first Export all your current Tab Customisations).

Also please post your Tab Customisation so others can try to investigate/repeat the problem.

I've had Bap so long I thought I did it in v3. Sorry.

Luckily 'Bap' was the only 'customising' I've done to my tab setup.

Property Box > Menu > Customise. Added Baptism from Available Items.

Did click on Installation Settings, still got the same problem.

We believe we've now fixed this problem in a patch (5.0.2) which also fixes various other problems. Anyone who has experienced this problem should download and install the patch at

http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downl ... ee-upgrade

If you still have problems even after installing the patch, please let us know by emailing Family Historian support at support@family-historian.co.uk. Thanks.
