Exporting to Gedcom

Post by juliemuirhead49 » 11 Oct 2011 07:27

Am trying to create a Gedcom to upload online to Webtrees but am finding that even though I am not ticking the exclude repositories option the created file is not including repositories. Have opened the Gedcom in FH 4 as well but definitely no repositories.

Anyone any ideas why this is happening, I really need the repositories as well as the sources in my file to upload.

Thanks,
Julie [frown]

I can see the issue, for now I would recommend using the Split tree option on a copy of your file (use File>Gedcom Tasks>Save As) and see if that includes them.

I had not noticed the problem as I use Repositories to store contact details and never include them in my Web pages.

Exporting to Gedcom

I suspect this is directly related to the problem posted under Exported GEDCOM file Excludes more than expected at
http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... y&num=4954
The solution is to untick Exclude all records which are not linked to the selected Individual records.

Hi

I would just like to confirm what both Jane and Tatewise have said on this.  The problem (as is mentioned in the link that Tatewise gives) is that the option to 'Exclude all records which are not linked to the selected Individual records', in Export Gedcom File, is interpreted by FH as meaning 'directly linked'.  Repository records are not actually linked directly to Individual records.  They are linked to Source records (which in turn may of course be linked to Individual records).  This is why they are excluded.  Perhaps the moral is that what is really wanted it an option to exclude all records which are not linked, directly or indirectly, to the seleted Individual records.  I have made a note of this.

You can get round this problem by combining Split Tree Helper and Gedcom export.  Do the GEDCOM export first, leaving 'Exclude all records which are not linked...' unticked.  Then say 'Yes' when asked if you wish to view the exported file.  In the new instance of FH that opens for the exported one(and make very sure that it is that one!) go to Split Tree Helper on the File menu and choose 'Delete Repository records left with no links to them' for the Repository option (and likewise for other record types).  Then click Delete.
