I thought this would have been covered in the past, but I only found one thread and the solution was to a FAQ on people with multiple names, but the link is broken.
I have a family that appear on 3 censuses under one surname, then from 1881 to 1891 the surname changes. I know it is the right family as everyone's ages, names and place of birth match, there are just a couple of the older children missing and the mother-in-law is living with them as a widow on one of the later ones. What makes it even more certain is that this is a small village in Bucks and the surnames are not overly common.
At least one of the male children then married and is listed on a census with the new surname, and his children are registered with the new name (I don't know what name was used for the marriage as I haven't been able to find it yet). There is also a female who had a child out of wedlock but they have registered their offspring with the new surname.
How do I record this in FH (I'm using v4)? At the moment I have everyone entered under the name they were born with, but that means there are children with different names to their parents!
Thanks,
Pete
