New member.... Half English, half Dutch, help,

Post by Tuthmosis » 14 Oct 2009 16:36

Further to the post title. I would like to trace my family history. Ny main problem is that the greater half of my family are/were, Dutch. How does FHUG allow me to trace the 'foreign bodies' within my family? Kind regards.[confused]

Hi Tuthmosis,
Not sure what you are actualy querying here ? FHUG is a user support group run by the excellent Jane [grin] to enable users of the Family Historian (FH) Software to help each other. FHUG it self does not contain any records to help you with tracing your ancestors.
Now, if you are real asking if FH will support a Dutch family then yes, it is all just data. You may have some intial trouble with any special characters, but other than that it will work fine.

Hi,

if you are looking for a professional genealogist in the Netherlands, you might want to take a look here:
http://genealogypro.com/directories/Netherlands.html
, or check Google for 'professional genealogist Netherlands', or whatever.

The Dutch have a number of pretty active genealogical societies, and by now they've got a lot of material in the internet, too - I think some of that comes from the state archives. I'd also suppose that some stuff has been filmed by the LDS:
http://www.familysearch.org, go to Library and Library Catalog, and check for the places you need.

I'm no specialist in the area, so this is what I can think of in general.

Thanks for all of your assistance. I originally sent an email enquiry to Family Historians software makers, who advised me to come to these forums for assistance. I shall now look to the links that you all have given me.

Another place to try is the Ancestry.co.uk web site. They have a number of Dutch collections, although most are actually in dutch, so if you don't speak the languauge you may have trouble understanding them.
