Report Record Heading on two lines

Post by SabineS » 09 Oct 2009 18:39

Well ... I ticked the wrong box somewhere during the installation of V4, and now I'm trying to reconstruct my report formats.

In the Family Group Sheet, there was a way to show the Record Heading on two lines, for example showing both partners, like this:
MILLER, John
SMITH, Anne

Now how do I get that line feed (between John and Smith) in the data reference?

TIA

Report Record Heading on two lines

The first picture below shows how it is now, the second how I want it - scanned from an older printout I had in my files.

The line in the Record Options Format tab, Heading, Record, Edit, in the current version looks like this:
%FAM.HUSB[1]>NAME[1]:SURNAME%, %FAM.HUSB[1]>NAME[1]:GIVEN_ALL% [FRN =RecordId(%FAM%)]

So how do I put in a line feed before the FRN entry?

Report Record Heading on two lines

I can't find it in the help tonight, if you have a backup of the appication data folder you could copy the old report with a new name to the custom folder

Report Record Heading on two lines

Post by SabineS » 10 Oct 2009 15:47

Hi Jane,

actually I don't think it is in the help, though it might be good to have it there.

But getting the old file out of the backup indeed was what I finally did, and the line defining the record header looks like this:

%FAM.HUSB>NAME[1]:SURNAME%, %FAM.HUSB>NAME[1]:GIVEN_ALL%n%FAM.WIFE>NAME[1]:SURNAME%, %FAM.WIFE>NAME[1]:GIVEN_ALL%n[FRN =RecordId(%FAM%)]

So the 'new line' keyword is 'n'. Hmmm ... I wonder if there are more like that, like for example putting something on the right margin instead of the left?

Thank you anyway for caring!

Report Record Heading on two lines

Sorry I cannot help you Sabine, but my family group sheet report looks slightly different from yours. The header shows both parents names on one line, but I would also like it to show the family ID#, how can I do this?
Thank you.

Beebee,

like this:
=RecordId(%FAM%)

As you can see in the scanned portions, I put it in square brackets and write FRN before that. To get that, the term should be:
[FRN =RecordId(%FAM%)]

It takes some effort to understand functions like =RecordId, but they are absolutely ingenious.

Thank you Sabine, now I have it looking just how I want. I shall definitely look further into the functions and, hopefully, personalise things even further.

Beebee.
