Source pane positioning

Post by SteveK » 29 Apr 2009 23:33

I am exploring the Trial Version 4 and have a question about positioning the source pane.

Going into Preferences - Property Box and setting 'Position of Source Pane when Property Box is docked' to Right results in the source pane obscuring the set of buttons at the top of the Property Box.

Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening?

Regards,  Steve

I must admit I have not tried putting the panel over there I keep it to the bottom.

I, too, am having this problem but if I have the source pane at the bottom I can't see it without scrolling. Even if it is on the right then I still have to scroll sideways - is this the same for everyone or do I not see as much on screen because I don't have a widescreen monitor? I am not finding it as easy to see everything as I input information although I must say I love the new focus window with all its options.

First comment I would make is that I think the minimum resolution anyone should attempt to use a modern software package at would be 1024 x 768 but ideally much higher than this. I have a nice widescreen, high resolution monitor at home but I do find the source pane a bit 'squeezed in' at the bottom. Particularly as I've added baptism and burial information to the first tab.

I think unless you have plenty of screen space you might be better running the properties undocked in its own window (the only option available in version 3 and earlier).

You can always undock the box and then you can enlarge it to near the size of your screen.

Thanks for that - I have got the property box floatiing now and can have sources showing in full. This suits me nicely as I have worked out how to open the box easily from the toolbar when navigating round the focus window so I only need to keep it open when I have something to input on a specific person. Best of both worlds.

You can open the property box, by double clicking on a person in the Focus window or on a diagram.
