Can't read much of screen when preparing query (v3

Post by jiffle » 29 Sep 2008 18:11

I'm running the latest FH v3.1.2

If I do: View, Standard Queries > Immediate Family (then agree to the
proposed name) then I can't read some of the tab names, and the icons to the right of the query field are half hidden. The problem's even more obvious if I click on the Columns tab (when I can barely read the tree in the left pane). I've attached a screen snapshot.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks...

It looks like you have un-installed one of the standard fonts or changed the windows default font.

Does the record window render correctly?

Have you tried changing the font for the window in the Query options, I don't think it will fix the panel, but should fix the results page.

I've not knowingly changed or uninstalled any fonts, but you could be right - though don't forget the half-hidden icons (eg to right of the query string). I'm wondering if it's the driver for my screen, but it's nvidia and looks comprehensive (I even tried forcing aliasing on fonts). Fortunately the results screens are fine, and as i begin to build up my set of queries at least i have to use the tree less...

The half icons are probably because of the the odd font making the top panel shallower than it normally is.

Thought you might like to know I found an option last night, via the Control Panel, Display icon, Appearance tab, Effects button which gave a tick-box 'Use following to smooth edges of fonts' which had been set to Standard and i changed it to Cleartype. That improved the small fonts an awful lot, although the icons to the right of the query box remain half hidden (but that's less of a problem since the windows hover function explains what they are when i put the mouse over them). Thanks for your time in replying with suggestions.

You haven't got desktop->appearance->font size set other than normal have you? It looks to me a bit like an aspect ratio problem on some scaling.
