How to convert pdf files to jpg files
Can anyone help me please?
The copies of the pages from the 1901 census that I have ordered from the Internet have come in pdf format. I have inserted these files in multimedia and I have linked them to various sources. The problem is that if I want to see the image, I have to click on the source, click on the multimedia, click on the pdf icon, wait for 20 seconds whilst Acrobat Reader loads and then finally I am able to view the image.
I have two questions:
Is there a better way of doing it? Or, does anyone know of a cheap program that will convert pdf files to jpg files?

If you have Acrobat reader 6, probably 5 as well. Open the document and press the icon with the camera and the dotted line on it, then go to the edit menu and select copy. It will copy the page to the clipboard, you can then paste it in to what ever graphics package you chose and save it as a JPG file.

I have just purchased software for converting PDF files to WORD format. This is version 1 and can be bought online from SYSTRAN.
If you order the CDROM be careful of the postal charge it can be 'heavy'.
Jane's idea is probably the best and the quickest.

If like me you use the full Acrobat product rather than Acrobat Reader, you will probably find that you can't do this because of the protection on the files.
You will need to specifically use Reader to open the document.

Every time I've 'bought' a downloaded page from 1901 with the good-old voucher, I've had the option to save it as a TIFF file (as well as a PDF). I can't think of any of the free image-viewing softwares available that won't let you look at TIFFs.
I think that Irfan Viewer allows you to convert from one format to another, so TIFF to JPEG wouldn't be a problem.[grin]

Just a note to say the link above is for a paid for program.
Personally to convert PDF to JPG or Tiff open Acrobat Reader 6, click on the select image option, highlight the image you want and paste into any graphics package as save as required.
