2nd Spouse on Diagram

Post by boddington » 30 May 2007 17:30

Can someone please tell me how to move box of 2nd spouse nearer to Husband.
1st Spouse next to him, but then big gap before 2nd Spouse box.
Is there a way to do this i.e. Click and Drag?

I am guessing this is because both spouses have children.  One way is to 'offset' the children from one marriage above the other  set using the Box and Bar move.

Hi Jane

Could you tell me which page in the User Manual I will find the information for the Box and Bar move, to 'Offset' the 3 Children from the 1st Marriage, to the 8 Children from the 2nd Marriage.

I didn't look in the manual.

All you do is, put the diagram in box and bar move mode and then grab the little white dot above the children and move it up or down to suit.

After searching Family Historian I understand I need to use the Moving/Resizing button on the Diagram Toolbar to enable me to carry out 'Box and Bar'Move.
The Moving /Resizing Button is next to the Control Button. Both of these appear to be on Version 3.
As I am still using Version 2, and a relative beginner with Family Historian, is there a way I can perform the same 'Box and Bar' Moving/Resizing with Version 2.
I would appreciate any advice you can give me please.

2nd Spouse on Diagram

Hi Jane,
I have purchased version 3.1 update, and am now trying to organise the positioning of the generations - Husband and Wife, and Siblings.
At the moment I am having a problem with the positioning of a second spouse.
First spouse has three children, the second spouse has seven children, so between Husband and second spouse there is a large gap on the diagram.  I have tried to use Box and Bar, and Fixed-Fixed Point Move, to arrange the seven children around the second spouse, but I am only able to move in the one generation(siblings). Five of the siblings also have spouses so this is also making moving boxes difficult[confused]
In this situation do I position the husband between the two spouses, or to the left where I have him at the moment.
I understoodd the husband was always placed to the left of the wife?
