Gedcom Census

Post by Sylvia5401 » 24 Oct 2005 22:53

I have just downloaded and installed the software. When I try to save an entry, it pops a box saying that it couldn't take a backup to the install folder.

The file is not in use by anything else, I have oodles of disc space, so it looks as though it's a problem with permissions. My user account does not have system admin privilege. I ran into a similar problem with censuslog.txt and was able to solve that by changing the folder. Is there any way that I can change the path of the folder where the backups are saved?

Gedcom Census

Hi Sylvia

I have thought about this issue once or twice in the past but I hadn't come across anyone using Gedcom Census as a standard user (rather than admin/power user) so didn't spend time working on it (it is only freeware after all). However, one of my roles is a network administrator and this kind of thing drives me mad when installing software so really it is a bit two-faced of me not to have built this option in.

I'm currently working on an update which I hoped was complete and ready to go, but I'll add in this as another feature just for you :)

Regards

I've made what I hope are the necessary changes to Gedcom Census and now have a version that I hope I'll be able to release soon once it has been tested.

If you (or anyone else reading this in October 2005) would like to help me test it then please email me via nsw@eidosnet.co.uk and I'll send you a link.

Regards

Nick
