FHUG Toolbar Add-on

Post by tatewise » 07 Aug 2012 11:12

Jane, I have the FHUG Download ~ Utility ~ FHUG Toolbar Add-on downloaded from fhug Community Toolbar installed on Firefox 14.0.1 in Windows 7 SP1.

Regularly, the News for Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and recently FHUG Forum Posts will not allow entries to be Deleted.
Does not matter whether I use selected item Delete Message or Delete All Items, the items are initially deleted, but next time I run Firefox they are all back in the list again.
Also does not matter whether the items have been read or not.

This problem has persisted over several versions of Firefox and several updates of the FHUG Toolbar, which is at version 3.14.1.0 that I last updated on 10 July 2012.

The only way I can permanently get rid of them is to delete the associated C:UsersMikeAppDataRoamingMozillaFirefoxProfilesi2bk858z.defaultCT474033feedhttp___blog_eogn_com_eastmans_online_genealogy_atom_xml_***.xml files.

As you might have guessed I do not write the toolbar I have not noticed the issue as I seldom delete items, but wait for them to fall off with age, but I just tried on my installation and they all deleted fine (also on Firefox). So I suspect it's probably a permissions problem on with Firefox, it might be worth using the contact option off the help page to contact conduit, to see if they have any ideas.

Sorry Jane, I somehow though you were involved with the FHUG Toolbar.
I have reported the problem to Conduit.

BTW:
Is it time that Map Life Events was removed from the Work In Progress Plugins?

I did set it up, add the items etc and write a couple of the RSS feeds, but Conduit actually maintain and run the code, so I don't know why your links are not deleting, let me know if you get an answer.

I can delete the Map Life event pages from WIP if you like, just check you don't want to keep anything from them before I do.

The only WIP page for Map Life Events appears to be the code listing, which is presumably much the same as the Plugin Store version.
I have all I need in my Map Life Facts Plugin, so the WIP page can be deleted as far as I am concerned.

Jane ~ two weeks on, and apart from an auto-acknowledgement, I have had no response from Conduit regarding FHUG Toolbar Add-on problem.

Now I have updated to Firefox 15.0 and the FHUG Toolbar Add-on has vanished, despite still being listed in the Firefox > Tools > Add-ons Manager.
I have tried removing it and re-installing it, but although there are no error reports, nothing at all is working.
The Conduit website has completely changed such that it is now impossible to find the FHUG Toolbar and almost impossible to post messages.

OK Mike, I have upgraded to FF 15 and it's not working for me either, I tend to use Chrome most of the time now, and that bar is OK. So my guess it will start working again in a couple of days, when Conduit catch up.

The FHUG Toolbar Add-on is now working on Firefox 15.0, but I still have had no response from Conduit and the original Delete problem still persists.

I can find now way of locating and down-loading the FHUG Toolbar Add-on from the Conduit website, not even from their Toolbar Directory!
I have reported this to Conduit without reply yet.

The link appears to still be the same eg

http://fhug.forumtoolbar.com/

I probably have not added it to the directory, as I don't think it's of much interest to non FHUG users.

Yes, I am happy that is the link to the FHUG Toolbar Add-on download as it is the one in the KB FHUG Downloads at Utility ~ FHUG Toolbar Add-on.

But I wanted to check for the latest version directly from the Conduit website.
Roger, where exactly did you enter that Search, because I cannot get that result?

An ordinary Bing or Google search for FHUG Community Toolbar does find the download link OK.

Sorry; not quite as direct as I remembered. Conduit seems to shift to other sites without notice.

On http://www.conduit.com/, select 'community toolbar'

On toolbar.conduit.com, select 'Toolbar Directory' (small print right at the bottom).

On http://www.ourtoolbar.com/, Bing search for 'FHUG TOOLBAR'. The first result is http://fhug.forumtoolbar.com/, but I can't see any version info.

Ah, yes, that is NOT a Conduit site search, but an absolutely standard Bing search.
You can put any search terms into that Bing search, just like a Google search.
It is exactly the same as searching at www.bing.com or www.google.co.uk.
You do not have to go through the Conduit web pages to do the Bing search.

Mike,

I had an answer from Conduit, on I think the Firefox 15 problem, to uninstall the toolbar, then clear your cache and then reinstall, which might be worth a try for the delete problem, if you have not already tried it.

Un-installing the old toolbar and re-installing the latest toolbar changed its version from 3.15.1.0 to 10.13.1.89 and changed its presentation as well as its News cache.

It seems to have fixed the Delete All Items problem.

Unfortunately, it has fixed the Delete Message item problem by removing the feature altogether.
So to keep track of items of interest, they have to be Bookmarked elsewhere.
