I have been sent an Excel spreadsheat of a family tree.  Is there an idiot proof way of converting it into FH

Depending on the format and structure, in many cases it's easiest to key it in.

You can use tools such as acc2ged, but they are not for the faint hearted, as you need to understand the gedcom standard and record structures to make they useful.
