How do I ensure that each time I go into FH V4 it loads the most recent version of my family tree? What tends to happen is that when I start a new session, it doesn't load automatically the version I amended in my previous session, but an earlier version. I have to load the latest version manually. How do I arrange for FH V4 to load automatically the version I saved at the end of the previous session?

If using standalone GEDCOM, then use Tools > Preferences > Startup tab and use Project Window, select your preferred Family Historian Project and choose More Tasks... > Default Project.
However, all of this will only work if you Save to the same database file each time.
If you use File > Gedcom File Tasks > Save a Gedcom File Copy then the above settings will NOT help.

Just to clarify if you are using projects, you should never ever change the Gedcom file name by using the Save As from the Gedcom menu.
If you want to make backups of your tree, either use the Project copy option or the simple Family Historian backup which on V4 backs up only the gedcom data and not any attached media.
