To make the Find in Diagram function work properly

Post by JonAxtell » 12 Sep 2007 10:03

This is a simple request to make the Find in Diagram function work purely as a proper Find function just like the other find function. I consider in my opinion that the Find in Diagram feature to be a brain dead implementation of a find function. Sorry, but that's my view because it is so useless to me.

If I want to find someone called Mary Axtell in my diagram and I have 50 Mary Axtells in my database I have to select each of the 50 Mary's then select Ctrl-H to see if they are in the diagram. A more logical and intuitive method of finding a Mary Axtell in my diagram is to enter Mary Axtell into a dialog box and for FH to highlight the boxes in the diagram that match one at a time. I therefore only need to search for maybe a couple of Marys rather than 50.

To make the Find in Diagram function work properly

I have added this as
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wishlist/wldispl ... lwlref=334

What I do for this currently, is use the mark using Query option in combination with a query, which prompts for a first and last name and then use it to mark all matching boxes, for Women the query also picks out those whose spouses name matches the surname.

To make the Find in Diagram function work properly

Ingenious solution, I'll give it a try. But I still would like the wish list item to stay on the list since the current find in diagram method needs to be made a lot better and a lot more useful for users who would expect it to work.
