Password Protection for the generated website

Post by nshortland » 02 Sep 2008 13:12

Could we have password control over access to the generated website? This is implemented in many other genealogy website products, so it is possible. How easy it would be to implement is another question. I realy like the quick and simple integration of the web/CD feature in FH, and would prefer not to move outside of FH to produce my website.

Password Protection for the generated website

Most if the programs which have protection, that I have seen use php or similar to control the pages, as there are tools with in php (sessions and cookies) which make it easy to do. As FH generates flat pages I can't (with my web designer hat on) think of an easy way to do it with in static pages.

If your ISP allows you to use .htaccess files these are very easy to implement and allow you to password protect the complete directory. This would be the way to go if your ISP allows it.
