Coloured lines in record view

Post by JonAxtell » 22 Jun 2008 22:15

It would be nice to be able to have records in the record view coloured to highlight some aspect of your research.

Diagrams allows the setting of an icon, or the colour of the box to be changed which is very useful to show features of the underlying data - such as which people have census entries, which country the came from, if they are on a the main trunk or a branch, etc. etc.
It would be nice if the record view allowed this type of customisation. I realise that icons can't really be used in the record view, but having each record coloured according to a flag setting (or query) could be quite useful.

I would vote for that, my grandfather was James Elliott, my husband's grandfather was also James Elliott, they both seemed to have relations called James, William and Thomas which makes it a nightmare trying to quickly work out which one of them to select. It would be wonderful having some sort of colour coding to easily select 'his and hers' from the record window.

I can see it would be helpful, for example when I find a cluster of ancestors in a village I tend to capture everyone with that surname on the grounds that they are likely to be linked eventually - it would help me to have a visual difference between those I know are ancestors and those I am not sure.
