Search & Replace Dates

Post by johnmorrisoniom » 16 Nov 2011 14:27

Is there an easy way to search & replace dates.
I have just realised that one of my custom AS census templates had the wrong date for the 1861 census.
I have tried the search & replace plugin, but this doesn't work on dates (or is it possible to modify it to do so?) I have just under 4000 entries that need changing, so manually one by one is not a happy option

Search & Replace Dates

I'm sure there will be a LUA way to do this but if you open your GEDCOM file in a text editor (notepad is a good choice) then you could do a Find/Replace on the date. Make a backup first and obviously be careful in case any other events have this date correctly set.

Search & Replace Dates

The search and replace plugin only processes text fields, but as Nick says you can easily change it to match dates rather than text fields.

Give it a try, I think the search replace is fairly well documented.

If you get stuck shout and I'll try and build one for you.
