Hi has anyone got experience of importing from Legacy in the format Gedcom 5.5 in ANSI. I have some excluded records. But I cant see which record is the problem from the execeptions report.

The 10774 is the line number in the file. It looks like it could be additional information at the end of the file. The line is completely invalid as a GEDCOM line and I suspect it is the definition for a custom event type of Census.
If the data in the line makes no sense to you then it is probably safe to ignore it. If not looking at the relevant lines in the original file can give good clues as to who the data belongs to.

I was given to understand that Legacy was by far the best family tree programme - so why would anyone want to change to Family Historian? I do admit that Legacy is a bit rudimentary here and there and is quite cumbersome but at my age I really can't get my head around learning new programmes all the time. All I want is a programme which will record our family history in some permanent form. The big snag with Legacy is that there doesn't seem a way of printing out a complete family tree properly (only bits of it) - no matter how many add-on programmes you buy. What's Family Historian like on that score?

The best way to decide if the program is right for you is to download the demo version.
FH does not currently do an all in one tree, but the all relatives diagram is pretty good. Personally I couldn't print a 'complete tree' anyway as even an all relations chart would be 15m long.

As a long time user of FH, I read these postings and wondered if I ought to look at alternatives!
I downloaded the demo version of Legacy just to see.
The Legacy user interface is very nice and pretty simple, but when you really get down to the flexibility of the program I think FH wins hands down. Of course this needs a bit more effort sometimes but once things are set up FH is pretty straightforward and very flexible.
It is 'horses for courses' and I do agree you should try the demo versions of programs which are usually available.
