Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

I have just opened a GEDCOM file within FH and the message 'file not terminated correctly (no trailer record found)' has appeared.  When I click OK, the file opens as normal except that the tabs for sources and notes are completely empty!  The data still appears in each individual's entry.  Can anyone tell me what has happened?

This sounds as if the .ged file is damaged.

If it is a file someone has sent you ask them to send it again.

If it is one of your own, you may need to restore an earlier version from the backup copy using the restore option with in FH.

Not really, have you had any power cuts or 'unusual' events while saving the file?

No power cuts but I have been looking at different downloads from the FH site. I did download one or two but couldn't find them when I looked. That's the only thing I've done differently.

It's also taught me a lesson as the last time I backed up this particlar file was over a year ago! Luckily, I haven't done much research in the meantime.

Thanks for your help with this!

FH should offer to backup each time you exit the file each time you save and close the file, personally I always do this along with the date differentiated file names so I can go back to pretty well any point since I started using FH
