I want to use my laptop for working on FH. Currently I have done all my work on the PC. I have recently installed v 4 [ I had a very old v.3 before ] and wonder if it will be enough to copy my files from the PC onto a USB and then open them on the laptop with my new v.4?

Yes, just copy the files across.
BUT
before you create a project on the new machine there is a good chance you will need to mend your multimedia links as the drive and folder names might have changed.
From the Project Window, press More Tasks/Gedcom Tasks/Open Gedcom file
and use the work with external file links tool to check all your links and save the file.
You can now create a new project and copy all your media over if you would like to.
See the V4 How To's in the Knowledge Base for more information on Projects.
