Scottish source citations HELP!

Post by Pioneer » 18 Sep 2008 10:54

Hi
I have recently moved onto scottish ancestors and I am using Scotlandspeople as they only have the images. My problem is the source citations....Ancestry.co.uk have the records but no images but when you call up the same record on either website the source citations are completely different! Why is this and which is the official citation for the document in question?
Thank you in advance.

Scottish source citations HELP!

As you are using Scottish Records I would use the citations on Scotlands People. Most of the records on Ancestry are 'second-hand' in the sense that Ancestry bought the right to use them but don't own them.

Scottish source citations HELP!

Hi
Thank you for that Gerry. I didn't realise about the '2nd hand' bit but it makes sense. The only problem with the scotlandspeople site is its layout with regards to citations. The citation is in the file name of the image and for a newbie it isn't laid out in an easy to understand way that ancestry do it.
Regards
Jeff
