Slight problem using Ancestry

Post by Dagwood » 05 Jul 2013 14:43

I wonder if anyone can help here?
When I save a record eg Baptism certificate to a person on Ancestry it invariably appears as yet another item of media attached to the person's birth. This happens with baptisms, some marriages and census', and almost always with burials.
Does anyone know how I can ensure the media is attached to the correct event, moved if necessary, or can be made to create the correct event?

Try using the Ancestral Sources plug-in to attach your new media to your person record. It may do what you want.

Ancestral Sources is highly recommended and can be downloaded for free from this site: http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id ... rces:index

It is a stand-alone program (not a plug-in) and is an excellent way to record all those baptisms, marriages and census records.

Dagwood is refering to adding images to his tree on Ancestry, NOT in FH, so Ancestral Sources would not solve his problem.
I don't have a tree on Ancestry so am unable to help.

You're right John, it is on Ancestry that I have the problem. For one moment I was beginning to think, as good as it is, Ancestral Sources was far more powerful than I gave it credit for.

Sounds like you need to control which events the record is linked to.

When you come to do the 'Add new information to your tree' against the individual, on the r.h.s. you will probably see a button 'Edit all Fields'. Ensure this is clicked so you see instead 'Close editing'. Once it's been clicked it now appears to stay clicked.

Against each fact on the r.h.s. you should then see a tick-box 'Cite Source'. Unticking the box will stop the record being cited against the event. Image

The image shows what it should look like if you want to cite against both those events. Note that in the above, the image WILL be cited against the 2 events, even though I'm not using any of the data (no items checked on the l.h.s.)
