I wonder if there is a bug in the software that runs the FHUG forums. I ask the question because it has taken me three attempts to post a reply to an existing topic (Toponymy). On the first two attempts, my reply completely disappeared when I clicked Edit from Preview.
After each disappearance I noticed that someone else had posted a reply during the time that I was composing mine. Is this a known risk with 'hot' topics?

Bug in the forum software?
Sorry you have had problems.
It should handle it, but I suspect it's to do with the 'double' posts, or it may be to do with the browser / forum combination you are using.
I have seen it with other forum software's as well. With any long posts on any site I always hit CTRL-A and CTRL-C to copy my post prior to hitting the post or preview button, just to be on the safe side.

I thought I'd lost things like that too so I usually do Send message then edit it rather than doing Preview, it seems safer.

I also suspect it's to do with browser/forum. I have found short postings are normally ok, but long ones tend to be lost either if you go edit or back from Preview. I normally write my postings in an Outlook message first so I can spell check them before posting, then cut and paste them in. If I then lose the text by pressing edit, I can always get it back from the Outlook message, however I have to add any links to images again, so I do the same as Jane and copy the entire posting before pressing preview.
Remember Jane has a real job rather than maintaining the FHUG site which she does as a favour to all the rest of us. Any glitches in the site are insignificant when you consider the value of it as a resource and for the support you can get from other users.
ps. this reply didn't disappear when I pressed edit from Preview, but I have had others that did.
