Parents being added when I don't want them to be

Post by juliemuirhead49 » 03 Oct 2011 10:02

Hi,

I am adding parent details in Ancestral Sources so that the text box at the bottom reads better, however not always do I want to add the parents to my FH file. In this instance I am choosing NO when it asks if I want to add the parents and even though I am doing this the parents are still being added in the FH file.

Parents being added when I don't want them to be

It was my belief that once you choose to Add Parents then they will be added to FH unless you specifically Delete them before Saving.

Are you using Census or Baptism data entry?

When is the option to say NO to add parents presented?
Perhaps you are misreading the option to add a Birth Event for the parents that is presented during the Save operation.

The technique you should use to remove the parents is as follows.
Use Add Parents as you have been doing, and create the Auto-Text.
Then remove the tick from the Auto radio button at the bottom of the Auto-Text box.
Use Edit > Review/remove individual data changes and Delete both parents.
This will remove the Parents from the Census Grid, but retain the Auto-Text.
The parents will not then be added to FH.

I assume you are referring to a baptism entry. You enter information into the various text boxes above the Source Text at the bottom of the screen if you want the information saved in your file. If you don't want the parent details to be saved then don't enter them but just enter the details in the source text manually. Its best to do this when you've finished entering all the other details that you do want to save.

To answer your other point. Ancestral Sources is asking if you want to add the individuals as parents of the individual. If you choose 'no' it adds the individuals but not as parents. If you choose 'yes' it adds them as parents of the baptised person.
