It would be useful if you could use Ancestral source to input information from say Electoral Register.

Could you create a census template for each electoral register? Try investigating the Census->Census Templates options. Read the help pages for it and you'll also find some further information in the knowledge base: Census Grid Templates.

That would work, but the Tools > Options > Census settings would also need to be changed to set Source Type as Electoral Roll and Census information recorded in as Residence Fact.

You would have to remeber to change these back for genuine Census Records.
