Loss of census date from AS

Post by LornaCraig » 04 Mar 2012 00:36

Hi Nick,
I have discovered that there is a particular situation in which AS can lose the date of a census . The scenario is not one I am likely to repeat (can’t remember why I was doing it, anyway!) so it doesn’t worry me but I thought you might want to know about it. This was the sequence of events (using method 1 for censuses):

1. Choose a census year, enter a few individuals in the grid, then click Auto to produce auto-text in the text from source field.

2. From the menu bar select Census > Census Templates. In the template editor select the same region but a different year from the year of the census being entered. Then close the editor without making any changes.
The following error message appears:

At this point the Census Date field has been cleared and the drop-down menu for date selection is now blank (but I didn’t notice that when it first happened).

3. Click continue. Then click Save File. The above message re-appears.

4. However if some other action is performed first, e.g. editing the auto-text, and then Save File is clicked, things appear to proceed as normal - except that no birth dates can be calculated because there is “no census data to compute the birth date” .

5. Inspection of the Gedcom file shows that the census event has been created with no date and the linked image has no date, but all other information for all individuals had been retained and recorded, including (surprisingly) setting a census flag on the individuals for the correct year.

I am using AS v3, Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit.

Hi Lorna

Thanks for that. It will be fixed in the next version.

Best wishes
