Highlighting Data

Post by PyreneesPirate » 18 May 2013 18:12

Hello all,

I wonder if somebody has the answer to the following scenario.

I have a large family history database that I have imported from the Generations software package (which worked rather well I think).  I wrote a fair bit of information in the notes section of that program so not all the data was imported in the correct slots in the Family Historian package.

I am going through all my data on each family member and I am using the records window to confirm the correct information, expand the data and change information that needs to be changed.

My question is.....Is there an easy way of highlighting visually the data field in the records window attached to the individual that needs further investigation? Just so I
do not miss anything.  Second question...Can the font be changed or a different colour used of some sort of common flag linked to the individual data field so that it is easy to produce a what needs doing checking / doing report?

It is probably very easy to do.......but I am not sure and I would like to get this right first time if possible!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards

I do not think there is any highlighting technique to achieve exactly what you request.

What I suggest is you create a Source Record called say Needs Investigation.
Then if you right-click many fields in the Records Window there is an option to Add Source > Add Link to Existing Source Record where you can choose the record created above.

Now install the Plugin List All Citations for a Selected Source.
When run this should list all the data linked to that Needs Investigation Source Record.
If it doesn't then it could easily be extended to do so.

Also in the Records Window as data branches are expanded the linked Needs Investigation Source Record will be very evident, especially if it is given a striking name in capitals.

Thanks Mike,

A good solution.

I'll give it a try today and let you know later whether I was successful.

All the best,

An alternative, that may work even better, is to link to a separate Note Record with a distinctive name like * * * NEEDS INVESTIGATION * * *.
This may stand out better amongst any linked Source Records.
However, Note Record links are supported on different data fields than Source Record links.

I have written a Plugin based on List All Citations for a Source Plugin.
Download from List All Links to a Note Record.
