Adding marriage details to a child in a family group sheet report
Morning, is it possible to show details of a marriage (as with baptism) of the children in the family? I have one family with 9 children, most of whom married in the same church so I have parish records for them, and have added the details (status, address, occupation etc) in the notes. It would be a nice addition to that section of the book. I'm guessing it's in properties somewhere (if it can be done) but I've not been able to find it.
Thanks
Thanks
Deirdre

You asked this question a few months ago in this topic:
Adding marriage date / place to children in a family group sheet (21495)
A solution was eventually worked out.

Re: Adding marriage details to a child in a family group sheet report
Thanks Lorna, this isn't quite the same so apologies for not explaining fully.
For baptisms of all the children (not just the direct line) i add in to the notes section 'son / daughter of x and y, occupation and address'. This appears then in my custom family groups sheet reports.
But the same doesn't work for the children's marriage, although i have added the detail to the note section.
There are blue dots alongside the birth, baptism and death dates in the 'facts' section, but a red dot for the marriage - does this indicate which events are detailed?

Not quite what I was looking for - I already have the date and place details from my earlier query. This idea was to include the full details as it does in the 'family' (parents) section, but for the children as well.

Blue dots indicate Individual facts, red dots are Family facts.Deirdre784 wrote: ↑16 Jul 2023 10:55There are blue dots alongside the birth, baptism and death dates in the 'facts' section, but a red dot for the marriage - does this indicate which events are detailed?
As the discussion in the other topic showed, the children's marriages can be included so it would probably be possible to add the marriage notes. I suspect the biggest challenge would be achieving a sensible layout for all the information. I'll leave that to Mike as he, along with Mark, provided the solution in the other topic.

Thanks Lorna, for clarifying the dot colours. The layout work fine for the parents, I'd just like it to appear - where known - for the children not in the direct line.

Re: Adding marriage details to a child in a family group sheet report
I don't think there is an easy solution.
Perhaps there needs to be a new Wish List request for Family Member Family Events/Attributes to supplement the current Family Member Events/Attributes that only allow Individual facts.
The biggest problem is that whatever you try to add for each Child will also get added to the Husband and Wife above.
I think to add the Address and Notes would need more labelled entries such as:
Label: Address
Expression: %INDI.FAMS[1]>MARR[1].ADDR%
and
Label: Notes
Expression: %INDI.FAMS[1]>MARR[1].NOTE2%
which must be repeated for each Marriage for FAMS[2], FAMS[3], etc...
To avoid the duplicated Marriage details for the Husband and Wife you must exclude the Marriage Event from the Family Events/Attributes (Family Summary) section top right.
P.S.
After a little experimentation the following seems to work somehow:
However, notice there are a great many space characters between the Marriage details, the Address, and the Notes.
That seems to successfully force a new line at the correct points.
Nevertheless, the Address and Notes will NOT use the special font you have chosen for such text elsewhere.

Another option would be to find a plugin author to write a Report plugin.

Re: Adding marriage details to a child in a family group sheet report
Will try that options thanks Mike, but stupidly I have just realised that as I have the image from the parish records I can simply add that to the relevant child instead - helps to break up a primarily text book. Apologies again.
Thanks for the suggestion of the plugin
The option will be useful where I don't have the image but do have some transcript detail.

I once was told by such an author that she was thinking about writing a Report Plugin. I wonder whatever became of that plugin author????ColeValleyGirl wrote: ↑16 Jul 2023 11:35Another option would be to find a plugin author to write a Report plugin.

I've done one (a very simple one): Research Notes Report with Options but anything else is in the (long) to-do queue. I don't have Mike's ability to turn them out pretty well on demand.kfunk_ia wrote: ↑16 Jul 2023 12:40I once was told by such an author that she was thinking about writing a Report Plugin. Standard plugins are what I turn out quite quickly but Report plugins are not what I've tackled so far.
