Root person question
Hi All,
I'm creating an Ancestors chart for my wife. She is the root person. Is there a way to add her siblings to the diagram? In her Focus window I am able to enter her siblings but they do not show up on the diagram. When we get to the point of printing the chart for family members it would be nice to have the brothers and sisters included on the chart...thanks Bob

Re: Root person question
I've moved this to the Diagrams & Charts forum which is a better fit.
An Ancestors diagram only displays direct line ancestors and nobody else.
Choose an Ancestors and Descendants diagram or an All Relatives diagram which include more relatives.
If you don't want any Descendants displayed then use the Diagram > Options > General tab to set Generations Down to 1.
It would be wise to use Diagram > Save Diagram As > Custom Diagram Type and give it a memorable name.
Then that customised diagram can be used again and again with any person as the root.
Restore the standard diagram to its default setting of Generations Down: All

Re: Root person question
Mike...guess the next question is there a way to convert the current diagram to an "Ancestors and Descendants" or "All Relatives" diagram or do I have to rebuild it...Bob

Re: Root person question
That option is in the Diagram > Options > General tab too!
Just change the Tree: type at the top but it will rebuild the diagram anyway.
What had you customised that you need to preserve in the new diagram?

Re: Root person question
I'm somewhat of a novice with this so chart is probably not customized. Anyway, per your suggestion I changed the diagram under the General tab from descendants to "Ancestors and Descendants". That solved the problem...now my wife's siblings show up next to her as root. Is there an advantage to using "Ancestors and Descendants" vs All Relatives for this basic ancestors diagram....Bob

Re: Root person question
Bob, it depends on which relatives you want to include in the Diagram.
Ancestors & Descendants displays only direct bloodline Ancestors and Descendants plus siblings of the root person.
All Relatives displays many more relatives including spouses, cousins, etc.
Just try them and investigate the results. They can do no harm to your data.
With a Diagram Window displayed, hit the F1 keyboard key to display a Help page and follow any interesting links for explanations of the Diagram Options, etc.
In the FHUG Knowledge Base review the Diagrams and Charts articles.
