Incorrect data added
I have come across some anomalies in a project and wonder whether anybody else has experienced the same. Very occasionally, over the last year, I've come across an anomalous entry, a wrong fact, associated with an individual. In the past I wondered whether it was human error, had arisen in my original program software or the transfer to fH. However, this evening I came across a few anomalous facts arising from sources entered only two months ago. Early that evening I enterred data for six non-conformist baptisms from five different pages of registers. For one child, an occupation was added for the father for the same date, another indivdual had occupations added for both parents for the same date even though occupations were not included in the NC baptismal registers. For another child, the child was said to have died as well as having been baptised on the same day!
These entries were made consecutively over a period of 40 minutes and I recorded no censuses or deaths at the same time. I cannot be 100% certain I was using Ancestral Sources during that session but I have used it for baptisms. However, I don't always update fH after each entry I make using Ancestral Sources. I have no idea how these additional facts entered the individuals in this project, but cannot be certain after this time lag that there weren't data on my clipboard. Has anybody else ever experienced this and if so, how do I ensure it doesn't happen again?

Re: Incorrect data added
Hi Peter
You've posted this in the AS forum which suggests you think this is more likely to be an AS issue. I'm not aware of any problem with AS that would create these additional facts. However, depending on the options you've set in AS, it will automatically fill in certain fields for you: e.g. for a marriage it may automatically populate the fathers of the married couple (this is how it is meant to work) but as long as you are checking that the relevant text boxes have the correct data in them before saving then this shouldn't cause you any problems.
There should be no problems with creating a number of records consecutively in AS without using FH, in fact you are less likely to have problems working in that way (I frequently do this).
Baptism entries in AS don't have any options to create death facts for children. Of course it isn't impossible that there is a bug in AS that could do this, but I've not had any reports of anything like this and surely someone else would have spotted it by now.

Re: Incorrect data added
Nick, would the AS logs be able to throw any light on what was added to FH when the Baptisms were captured?

Re: Incorrect data added
Thanks Mike, yes they might do. Definitely worth having a look at the logs - under tools->View Log files. If you've created a lot of entries since then, it may take a while to click back to the entries in question. You could email the log file to me if you wish (nick at ancestralsources dot com) and I can take a look if you let me know the date in question. You will find the log file(s) in the Ancestral Sources folder in your Documents.

Re: Incorrect data added
Thank you for your comments and suggestion. I've been away for the last 48hrs but will search the log tomorrow. It seemed bizarre that deaths were added to a baptism and the parental occupations to other baptisms when father's baptism wasn't included on the non-conformist register.
I'll look closer and see whether I can focus down on the origin.

Re: Incorrect data added
Just a postscript to this stream:
The log was very instructive. I'm afraid the additional entries were down to human error on my part by not clearing suggested parental occupations from the AS entry screen. Like many users, I am catching up on lots of old data to be entered into fH with their associated images and I just became complacent. I've learned a lesson and also how to check the Options available in AS.
