Upgrading Version 6 to Version 7

Post by kimlawson1 » 09 Apr 2023 05:44

Hi There, I too am contemplating the upgrade to v7. These are probably questions answered when it first launched but....
1. Will my customised templates upgrade correctly or should I take screenshots (I'm aware there are way more options in v7)?
2. I have flags created which populate with entries via AS for census, baptisms, birth certs, marriage certs, death certs etc and are visible on the record window to clearly show holes in my research. Will these still correctly exist in v7?
3. Will I need to recreate all my AS templates in the newest AS version?
TIA

Welcome to the FHUG Kim.
I've started a new thread for this as it is a rather different topic.
  1. Exactly which customised templates are you talking about? ~ There are so many!
Most will probably be OK but use one of the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugins just in case.
One exception is the Property Box customizations. See Notes on Upgrading to Version 7.
  2. Yes, record flags will be preserved.
  3. The answer depends on whether you intend to adopt FH V7 templated source citations or not.
If you continue with generic source citations then I don't think AS needs any changes.
See Notes on Upgrading to Version 7.

Thanks Mike,

The link to the notes was exactly what I was looking for and will cover most of what I am looking for at first glance. I really want to upgrade so I'll give them a good read and make sure everything is organised before the upgrade.

I'm not sure what I want to do yet here
whether you intend to adopt FH V7 templated source citations or not or if you continue with generic source citations
.

I would hope you are already running AS 7.7. As I've said every time I release a new version, Ancestral Sources continues to support FH v6 and earlier versions. When you upgrade FH to v7 you will have new options to start using rich-text source text (see the Ancestral Sources Introduction video) and Templated Sources (see Using FH Templated Sources in Ancestral Sources video), but you don't need to use either of these things unless you want to.

Cheers

Nick
