I have been using both Rootsmagic 7 and FH 7. It works like a dream to move data from RM to FH. I must share data between RM users or I would switch completely.
Does anyone know if FH 7 has a direct import from either RM 8 or 9 ?

Yes, direct import from RM8 works just as for RM7. It should also work for RM9, as the new product is just RM8 with some extra features, but I haven't tried it yet.

I just tried a practice import from RM 9 to FH. From a quick scan looking at several ancestors it looks like everything imported properly.
I haven't added any data to the fan club stuff yet in RM 9 or saved any searches but those likely would not import. It would seem that with an update FH 7 could probably set it to migrate that data to the witness feature.

Re: direct import RM 9
I was curious about this but have not tested yet.
I have RM7 & RM8 (and just upgraded to RM9) -- a quick glance at the tables -- there does not seem to be any major impacts on the tables / fields that FH would use. That said -- a simple field name change could mess things up but should be a relatively easy fix.

Re: direct import RM 9
Agree - RM7 to RM8 was largely the addition of additional tables and fields to the same basic storage framework, but there were also a few significant changes to existing fields so they changed the file extension to keep them distinct.
RM8 to RM9 appears to be a much less significant enhancement with correspondingly fewer database changes, so they have retained the same *.rmtree naming convention. Both FH itself and plugins that read RM data directly via SQL will ignore additional tables and fields, so are robust to additions.
