Splitting citations on a source

Post by joanchop » 24 Jan 2023 20:45

Hi
I have very stupidly merged two sources, the 1901 and 1911 census, and wondering now, which is the best and easiest way to unmerge them? I downloaded the 'List all Citations' plug in but unsure how to go about splitting it that way. I have a medium backup dated 22 Jan 2023 and am thinking that is the way to go. Advice please?

I cannot think of any easy way to perform that un-Merge.
I presume you have closed FH so cannot use Edit > Undo Merge.

Did you perform the Merge today or yesterday?
If so then you can restore the GEDCOM to its previous state by using the automatic Snapshots.
Only the GEDCOM will have been affected and it will be easier than a Restore from Medium Backup.

Use File > Backup/Restore > Revert to Snapshot... and choose the most recent Snapshot Taken just before the merge, which should be dated either 23 or 24 January 2023 and click Revert to Snapshot...
If that does not revert far enough then repeat with an earlier dated Snapshot.
FH preserves your current GEDCOM as a Pre-revert Snapshot so there is no risk of losing anything.

Hi Mike
Thanks for getting back to me. I had closed FH almost straight after I did the merge on the 23rd, so did not spot the error until the next evening and thankfully had not done a back up.

I did as you suggested and reverted back to a snapshot on the 23rd and that worked.

This will teach me to think before I press the merge button next time.

Many many thanks.
