how related -- does one have to be "Root"?

Post by santatraugott » 31 Dec 2022 16:22

I am trying to determine how my son-in-law relates to one of his collateral relatives. These people obviously have nothing to do with my root ancestor. When I try to use the How Related Tool, the only option for my son-in-law to match with appears to be my own root ancestor. I have tried to read the knowledge base but so far can't figure out how to see exactly how my son-in-law relates to a collateral ancestor, that is totally unrelated to me.,

You may have to swap the first person & second person when the How Related screen pops up. There's a button for the purpose. Then the first person can be selected to be whomever you wish.

You can also simply start by selecting the two people in the Individuals tab of the Records Window before using Tools>How Related. They will then both be preselected in the How Related window.
