In response to Mark's categorisation - I suggest, as the OP - that this item is closed because Mike Tate's suggestion of using "GetLabelledText" to handle places-names beginning with "The", resolved the specific use-case that started me on this thread.
The 2nd specific use-case of "How do I spell 'Massachusetts'?" when creating a new place in that state, seems resolvable by me setting up the record for the new place-name first, having filtered the display first, and thus being able to see all the other similar place names at that point.
This leaves just the type-ahead issue of matching ", , XXX, YYY" place-names - I'll set up a new request for that, allowing this item to be closed.
