Centre align all parents in Chart diagram

Post by beng123 » 17 Nov 2022 17:40

Hi,
I'm fairly new to using Family Historian, but think I've got the hang of it fairly well now.
I've been able to import a fairly substantial family tree which I've been able to format as a chart diagram.
The only thing is, due to the size of the tree, it makes it hard to follow any one particular ancestry because they jump around a lot.
See attachments for how it looks and what I'd like to do to it.
Basically, the problem is, from the root decendent, the distance to either parent is massive because the alignment of each parent is spread across the entire width of the screen, whereas what I'd like ideally, similar to the second image, is that the parents are both next to each other directly above the decendnet, and this is the same incrementally.
This would mean that the grandparents would be further to the left and to the right of each parent (not directly above them) but I think this would look nicer, and be easier to follow.
I know I could try and just move them around to reflect this, but I want this to be automated, as doing this neatly for 500 people would be hard.
Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben,

I think your problem here is that in the diagram with the tree background the top two layers are actually one generation stacked on top of each other. I don't think you could achieve that automatically. It also limits it to the number of generations you have in that diagram - you couldn't go back further as there isn't room.

There are some extra charting software packages you can buy, it might be worth looking to see if they will do what you are looking for.

Welcome to the FHUG Ben.

Your family appears to have more generations than the proposed style, but I understand what you would prefer.
However, I suspect to get all your generations into one chart will be tricky.

Here are some ideas.
Try the Charts > Pedigree Chart... or Charts > Fan Chart... options.

In the FHUG > Knowledge Base > Downloads > Diagram Types try
Compact Ancestor Tree
Compact Ancestors Diagram
Pedigree Chart – 4 Gens – Ahnentafel
etc...
