Notes on Moving from Relatively Yours to FH7
Hi All,
I'm nearing the end of my move from Relatively Yours 3 to Family Historian 7. I have written some notes on my process (when I say "notes" I mean over 7000 words and 16 pages).
One of the steps requires using the Change Any Fact Tag plugin with a custom query to select the appropriate records.
My question is, do I describe how to create the custom query in my notes, or can I (somehow) make it available to download from the Knowledgebase? What is the preferred method?
Thanks,
Glenn

You can add a custom Query to https://fhug.org.uk/kb/download-type/query/ by using the Add/Update a Download feature.
Alternatively, you can include screenshots of the Columns tab &/or the Rows tab filters.

Ideally, we'd add it to the KnowledgeBase as a Download, and include screenshots as well so that people can see what they'd be getting.
If it's only useful in the context of your notes, it might need a little more explanation than most... or to be linked from an article on importing.

Thanks Helen and Mike. I didn't want to explain how to create a query - the document is long enough as it is. I'll add some screenshots and comments and upload the query. Now I need to spend some time editing to try and make the notes more concise - I can get a bit "wordy" at times!

Absolutely no need to explain how to create a query!

Re: Notes on Moving from Relatively Yours to FH7
Glenn, you may realise this already, but probably the best position for your notes is in the Importing to Family Historian section.
There are expandable 'accordion' subsections for each product and one for Import from Personal Ancestral File (PAF) / Relatively Yours already exists. Your notes could form another 'accordion' just for Import from Relatively Yours 3 and preferably should follow a similar structure and style of advice as all the existing 'accordions'. I imagine most of your notes come under the correcting problems/clean-up data portion towards the end of the 'accordion'.
When your new advice 'accordion' is complete, the Relatively Yours aspects of the existing 'accordion' can be removed.

I wouldn't want to sacrifice useful detail for the sake of consistency.

Who said anything about sacrificing useful detail?
I said "could" and "preferably".
Anyway, none of the existing advice is particularly consistent, but does all follow a similar workflow of exporting from the source product, importing to FH, and then fixing issues.

Re: Notes on Moving from Relatively Yours to FH7
Basically, my notes follow this sequence:
1. Steps to be taken within RY3 to ensure as clean an export as possible.
2. The actual export, including comments around export options
3. The import into FH7
4. Comments on the result of the import
5. Fixing the many issues (usually because of RY3 export limitations)
So, I think it will be consistent with the current Knowledgebase articles.
