Missing Field
After importing a Gedcom file from Family Tree Maker, I noticed that some of the field names were not able to be filled in.
Example: If I add the Cemetery field from FH to a person in my tree, I am unable to add the Cemetery Name. The Gedcom file I imported has that field available to be added, so I have been copying the fact from another record and pasting it to the record I am working on.
The same thing is happening to the obituary field, there is no place to add the newspaper name.
Is there a way to add that field to the cemetery and newspaper facts in FH?

Re: Missing Field
I suspect it is to do with Events versus Attributes but without a screenshot of what works and what does not work it is difficult to be certain. In Tools > Fact Types... what Type are your Cemetery and Obituary facts?
Is the field value you are trying to use similar to the field value in the Occupation attribute that allows the occupation to be entered?

Yes, it is just like Occupation that lets you enter something. They are both set as an event and custom. I just looked at the occupation and that is set to attribute and standard. If I try to edit them, the pulldown for the options is not working. Do I need to make a new one and set them to attribute and custom?

Yes, you need to create two new custom Attribute facts named Cemetery and Obituary.
Then you must edit the two custom Events and change their Label to Cemetery Event and Obituary Event respectively so they can be differentiated from the attributes.
Now you can use the Change Any Fact Tag plugin and convert every Cemetery Event to the Cemetery attribute, and then every Obituary Event to the Obituary attribute.
If you are happy with that then both the custom Event definitions can be deleted from Tools > Fact Types...

Re: Missing Field
Can this be done for the residence fields? When I try to create a new residence, it says, "you cannot create a new type of fact with these details in the fact set Custom" This is because there is already an individual attribute called residence in the fact set.

Re: Missing Field
The tactic described earlier works because Cemetery and Obituary are not standard GEDCOM facts.
Please explain what you are trying to achieve with Residence facts.
Residence is a standard GEDCOM Attribute fact but is an 'oddity' because it has no Value field.
If your Custom Fact Set already has a custom Residence Attribute then you cannot add another copy of the same Fact in the same Fact Set.

Re: Missing Field
I have a workaround that is working for me. ( I am using a custom field called Address and another one call Married Address for now.) I was trying to get the house number and street from the address field in the residence to show when you create a book. I am not sure why it is skipping just that field from the residence field.

Re: Missing Field
Are you saying that the entire Residence fact Address field was missing from the Report in the Book?
What type of Report is it? Individual Summary or Individual Narrative or what?
Are you sure you specified the options to include the Address?
It should be straightforward to include the Address.
Is it something that worked for you before, or is this the first time you have tried?
Maybe you are just unfamiliar with the correct settings?

Re: Missing Field
yes, the entire field is missing from the reports. The summary report and the narrative reports. This is happening for both facts. This is the first few days of playing with building a book, so there may be a setting that I am missing. It is just odd that it seems to be only these 2 facts that are not working correctly. If it is a setting that I am missing, where would it be?

Re: Missing Field
For Individual Summary Reports, all the Address fields of every fact are governed by the Report > Options > Contents tab, lower left Addresses tick option. which in a Book is reached via the cog Settings button. That option is ticked by default.
That option includes an Address: label followed by the Address value and is on the line below the date and place.
For Narrative Reports, the Address is included by the Sentence Template for the Residence fact using the {address} code.
So, use Tools > Fact Types..., select the Residence fact, and click the Edit... button to show the Fact Definition.
The Sentence Template needs the {address} code but you probably want it to say such as 'at 23 High Road' and that needs the 'at ' prefix to be conditional on the Address field existing, so you need to enter <at {address}> making the whole template like {individual} was living <at {address}> {place} {date} and say 'He was living at 23 High Road in London, England on 1 May 2000.'
May I suggest you spend a little more time investigating the features of Books and Reports. If something does not work as you would like then post a question here in a new thread. Only when that has been explored will it be necessary to invent a workaround such as custom facts. It is far better to persevere with the standard facts.
