Delete old project after backup

Post by Ruth_W » 24 Oct 2022 11:48

I really just want some reassurance on this before I do anything!

My PC shut itself down unexpectedly a couple of days ago while I was working on FH. On restarting there was nothing showing in my project. Thankfully, I back up regularly and was able to restore from the backup (once I'd realised it gave it a new name!!).
I was going to delete the original, now empty project, but when I try to, the delete project window warns me that there are 1007 files. If I open this, file statistics shows 0 for every row.
Just please reassure me that it is safe to delete the original (common sense says yes, but ... :? )

In your original empty Project try using File > Backup/Restore > Revert to Snapshot... and choose the Snapshot Taken on the date of the PC Shutdown.
I suspect the GEDCOM file got upset by the PC Shutdown but the rest of the Project is OK as indicated by the 1007 files.
The File Statistics command only relates to records within the GEDCOM file, which is probably corrupted.
So reverting to the Snapshot will restore the GEDCOM file to the beginning of that day.

Let me know whether that works or not and then we can decide which is the best way forward.

That worked! Thank-you so much, I would not have thought of doing that.

Ruth, in that case, you can safely delete the Project (2) that you created from Project Backups.
