Charts and Publish commands freeze FH

Post by sergio » 13 Sep 2022 14:22

I'm running FH on Windows 11.
All charts or publish generations freeze the software, all other functions run correctly.
Do you have suggestions?

Thanks
Sergio

Sergio,
I am also on Win 11
I've noticed with the latest release of FH 7.0.15, that it takes a lot longer to generate the reports and diagrams than before, which were usually pretty instant.
At first I also thought FH was frozen/crashed, but they do appear

Sergio, which FH version are you running?
Your profile on the right says FH V6.2 and the latest is FH V7.0.15.

How many Individual and Family records are there in your Project?
Do your Diagrams and Reports include a great many records and Media images?

Have you added any large Media images recently?

Is your Project held in OneDrive or some other cloud store?

I tried to wait for 30 minutes but no result has arrived.
My FH version is 7.0.15 and my project contain 2300 individual and 800 families. But the same result (freeze) are in small project too (also without media).
My projects are in local hard drive, without any cloud clone.

Does the problem also affect the Family Historian Sample Project using standard Diagrams and Reports that have NOT been customised by you?

If so, it may be a printer set up problem.
What does the FH File > Print Setup... dialogue say?

Try using the Family Historian PDF printer.

Can you print anything directly from a Windows 11 application like Word or Exel?
Does the Print option with those let you choose Family Historian PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF and work?

If those don't work then FH will have difficulty displaying Diagrams and Reports.

It may be that you have general Windows 11 Printer Driver problems.

Instead a new topic i should have to reboot the pc... the printer was the problem, other software was blocking it.
Thanks for your help.

Sergio and others following this thread, notice the diagnostic escalation technique.
FH has a problem with Diagrams and Reports that relies on printing working.
So, escalate to checking the File > Print Setup... in FH.
If that has a problem, escalate to printing in Windows applications such as Word.
If that has a problem, escalate to Windows level and try a Restart.
