Hi all - brand new person/user on the 30 day trial (RootsMagic7 user)
I am trying to build a source template like the one I use in RM and got some really weird results with placement of spaces and punctuation.
"{dbName}", <{dbType}|database>, <i><{Website}|Ancestry.com></i> (<{itemURL}|{URL}> : accessed {AccessDate}) <{ItemOfInterest}><; citing {citing}>.
" New York, New York, U.S., Index to Birth Certificates, 1866-1909 ", database, Ancestry.com( https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse ... =1169648: accessed 19 January 2021 ) Walter Seigfred Gunnarson, 30 May 1908 Brooklyn, New York City, Kings, New York ; citing New York City Department of Records & Information Services. New York City Birth Certificates.
How do I get " marks without extra space around the {dbName}?
How do I get a space between <{Website}|Ancestry.com></i> and the ( ?
How do I get the colon in the url expression to have a space on either side of it?
and lastly
<{ItemOfInterest}><; citing {citing}>.
I've played with several iterations of this. I want the item of interest if it exists and the citing if it exists, If they are both present, separate with semicolon and a space. If only one exists, end with a period.
Thank you for your time and patience
Bev
EDIT TO ADD
I changed the TITLE style to double quotes which solved one of the problems.
Next fix: added spaces in the conditional brackets to provide space before the (
<{Website} |Ancestry.com >
and put the space:space inside conditional brackets thus
<: accessed {AccessDate}>
so I'm STILL trying to work out how to put () around the phrase without padding them with spaces

So you can see that the parens and semicolon are hanging out in space in the Footnote.

Re: source template - unexpected results
SOLVED:
{dbName:TITLE}, <{dbType}|database>, <i><{Website} |Ancestry.com ></i><(<{itemURL}|{URL}><: accessed {AccessDate}>)><<{ItemOfInterest}>;< citing {citing}>>.
I was able to tame the stray spaces by putting conditional brackets around the expressions.
{dbName:TITLE},
<{dbType}|database>,
<i><{Website} |Ancestry.com ></i>
<(<{itemURL}|{URL}><: accessed {AccessDate}>)>
<<{ItemOfInterest}>;< citing {citing}>>.
{dbName:TITLE}, <{dbType}|database>, <i><{Website} |Ancestry.com ></i><(<{itemURL}|{URL}><: accessed {AccessDate}>)><<{ItemOfInterest}>;< citing {citing}>>.

{dbName:TITLE},
<{dbType}|database>,

<<{ItemOfInterest}>;< citing {citing}>>.

Good to see how you had a problem and then resolved it!
If it makes for a more streamlined workflow, you might find my Freeform Source Citation Template B of interest as it would allow you to copy and paste your RM templates into FH7, with the database name in italics.
