Multiple Media Records?

Post by MFriend » 22 Apr 2022 14:49

I am not sure if this is the way FH7 is supposed to be, but I noticed in the "Media" tab that the same media shows multiple times. Here is an example:

This is not a case of multiple versions of the same file (I've already checked the media folder and have run the "Check for Possible Media Duplicates" plugin).

It's not that big of a deal since it is not taking up extra space on my drive, but is there a way to merge the duplicate entries or is it supposed to be like that?

You appear to have linked the same image four times to this individual. Either you have created four different Media records, all linked to the same Media file, and linked each of these Media records to the individual, or you have linked the same Media record four times. In either case this is unnecessary duplication. Delete three of the links to the individual. Also look at the Media tab of the Records Window to see if you have more than one Media record with the same name. If so they can be merged.

However, images linked directly to an individual are normally photos of the individual, but I see that this is an image of a marriage document. The usual practice for images of documents like this is to link them to a Source Record, and the Source Record is then cited as evidence for the various facts derived from it. The image can also be linked directly to each of those facts, if you wish . You might have derived four different facts from the marriage record but there is no benefit in linking the same image four times to the individual.
