Linking individuals to sources

Post by Gary F » 18 Mar 2022 22:01

Hello, my first post, so forgive me if I'm using the wrong selection of topics.
I have sources in my project that do not show me the name of the individual to whom the source is related.
Only 1% of the sources stymy me. This is one of them.
In the sources to link.jpg screen shot for Parish Registers, the fourth column tells me there is a link to one record related to the Parish Registers of Immaculée Conception, Trois Rivières.
Assuming this means there is an individual in my db attached to this source I run the query showing in my second screen shot: Query to Individual linked to source record.jpg.
As you can see in the third screen shot, no individual is found.
In most cases the webtag or an other field in the source identifies the individual or persons (such as in a marriage record) to whom the source refers.
In this case, there was no subfield that named the individual.
Am I out of luck tracing the source to an individual. If so, what does the source link to?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Two ways -
1. Select the source record, use menu item View / Citations to Source Record

This shows the facts using that source, with the note record, family or individual owning that fact (or at least, I can see in my test that it gives you those)

2. Select the source record, use menu item View / Record Links

This shows just the note record, family or individual, not the relevant fact.

It is not impossible that something is omitted - I'm sure someone will correct me!

I suspect that the issue with the query you used is that it just shows Individuals, not Note Records or Families.

Gary,
First of all welcome to the group.
Contrary to your thoughts, FH provides a simple way to see who is associated with a source.
If you open the property box for the source, click the cogwheel, at the top, and from the sub-menu select the option to ‘show source records’s citations in a separet window’

Click thiis, and you will be shown a list giving which facts have used the source, and who the fact belongs to!

I keep forgetting that way. Something about my mental model of what the cog-wheel is there for, I suspect. "Your mileage may vary"... ;)

So far as I can see, your useful cog-wheel appears to give the same results as my item #1.

As I said in reply to your family-historian@groups.io posting there are four or more methods.
See Finding Records Linked to a Source plus the FH V7 methods mentioned by others.
